From the Manchester Evening News, Friday 21st January 1916, page 7, column 2:

Died in France as a result of severe internal injuries sustained when in a trench which was destroyed by a German shell. He was only twenty years of age and had been at the front eleven days. He was a well-known Newton lad and the second scout in the 2nd Newton Troop.
