At an inquest held at Grimsby today respecting the death of a soldier named William Lees Ashton, it was stated that the deceased swallowed a hot potato on Sunday. This had set up irritation, and ultimately caused death.
All gravestones have now been removed from St George’s churchyard. The CWGC gravestones were replaced by the memorial pictured above.
