From the Manchester Evening News, 24th August 1916, page 2, column 7:

Private Leonard Smith, Commercial Brow, Hyde, Killed on July 19. His mother is a widow, and had lost two other sons in the war - Private Harold Smith, killed in February, 1915; and Private Ernest Smith, killed in the following August; while another son, Private Herbert Smith, is now fighting in France.

Two days after the above report was published the fourth brother, Private Herbert Smith, died of wounds in Flanders.
