From the North Cheshire Herald, 27th February, page 8, column 3:
One of the most popular officers with the Hyde Territorials is our esteemed townsman, Lieutenant John Morris, of Mottram Road, Hyde, and his popularity amongst the officers and men of the 6th Battalion Cheshire Regiment, and especially “C” Company, is only equalled by the respect and admiration with which the people of Hyde regard him. He has been with the “Terriers” ever since they left Hyde in August, and during the whole time they have been in the trenches, attended to the sick and wounded. In a letter received by Mrs (Dr) Morris, last Monday, the Doctor stated that “the weather was still very wet. They had been in the trenches eight days and should have been reserved on Wednesday, the 17th inst.” We wish our genial Doctor a safe return.
