Died a Prisoner of War.
Two "Kipling Memorial"s are described in official records for the cemetery at Vis-en-Artois.
Their inscriptions are:
To the memory of these two British soldiers who died as Prisoners of War (1918) and were buried at the time in RUMAUCOURT GERMAN CEMETERY, but whose graves are now lost. Their glory shall not be blotted out. 2/5 N Staffs 200258 Wilshaw Sgt E 21/3/18 1st Cheshire Regt 25186 Lafbery Pte S T 26/8/18 | To the memory of 25186 Private S T Lafbury Cheshire Regiment 26th August 1918, age 19 who was buried in Rumaucourt German Cemetery but whose grave is now lost. |
One memorial may have been temporary, and one more permanent?, but we are unsure if either or both still exist.
