He received the British War Medal.
On October 16th 1914 he was no longer fit for service.
His grave says he died age 44, although his Birth Record says he was born in 1873 which would have put him at 45 or 46 when he died.
His daughter Mary Jane Chaplin Died in 1916 aged 5.
