He was accidentally Injured at 4pm on the 23rd October 1916. Private Willaim Gray was wounded during a bombing practice exercise on the outskirts of Fransce Village. A mills grenade was thrown badly, hit the top of his trench and fell back into the trench. The grenade exploded with shrapnel going into Private Gray’s right thigh and causing a puncture wound. He was sent to No.34 Field Ambulance for treatment.
He died in 1918 of a wound to the abdomen.
