When he was buried a note in a bottle was place in his grave. He was later found by another soldier from the Manchesters who came from Gee Cross and knew him well. He is also commemorated on a memorial plaque in Holy Trinity Church, Gee Cross.

Named as Charles Shufflebotham in the 1911 Census.
