Private Harold Hampson, aged 21, of Harrison Street, Gee Cross, was killed in the trenches in France on the 17th inst. He was shot in the heart, and died in a few minutes. His officer in a letter states that this was the first casualty they had in the trench lines for many weeks. It is a sad coincidence that the mother of Private Hampson’s fiancée, on hearing the news of his death, had a seizure and died within an hour or two.
