The Manchesters were engaged in a hot battle in August 23rd, and the Lieutenant, who had gone over, was shot down. Private Braddock, who was a stretcher bearer went over the top to attend to the officer, when he, too, was shot, a bullet piercing his face and coming out at the back of his head. He fell, and Sergeant Hyde promptly went to him and found that he was dead. He brought his body back, and it was buried behind the lines.
