From the North Cheshire Herald, 12th June 1915, page 8, column 4:
Official news was received, on Wednesday, by his relatives in Hyde, of the death in action of a well known Hyde man, Private T. Bardsley, of the Royal Scots Fusiliers.
The official letter read:
It is my painful duty to inform you that a report has this day been received from the War Office, notifying the death of 15549 Private Thomas Bardsley, 2nd Battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers; which occurred at a place not stated, on the 17th May, 1915. I am to express to you the sympathy and regret of the Army Council at your loss. The cause of death was killed in action.
Private Bardsley enlisted in November last, and has been abroad since April. Prior to the war he was employed at Brinnington Colliery.
