Suffered a gunshot wound to the left knee in October 1916. He had returned from leave on 12 February 1918, and was Killed in Action on 22 March 1918. In the 1921 Cenotaph Unveiling Booklet he is named as Joseph Wilson. A Message of Remembrance, written for Werneth Low Cenotaph Unveiling, 25th June 1921:
